Welcome to the Green Hills School Physical Education Site!!
Our classes have gotten off to a wonderful and active start in 2010! The 4th through 8th grades have been learning and playing volleyball. Most of the time we are using regulation volleyballs, but sometimes, for fun, we use big, bouncy balls that are light and easy to hit. These are especially helpful for the younger grades who are still having trouble getting the ball over the net. We will play volleyball and hopefully some pickleball for a few weeks until we switch gears and start the spring session of physical fitness testing. I'd like to remind you once again that appropriate sneakers are a must! Appropriate footwear includes athletic sneakers that tie. The students do a lot of running and changes of directions, therefore, their sneakers need to be tied and supportive to help prevent injury. 3rd, 2nd and 1st grades have been burning up tons of energy while playing a variety of games. We have been working on the proper way to throw and kick by challenging ourselves in a variety of activities, as well as improving our sportsmanship, cooperation and general fitness. We are also expanding our vocabulary with definitions to terms such as hand/eye coordination, teamwork, cooperation, pace, agility and various names of muscles. It is important for the students to understand the benefits of regular exercise so they can grow into informed adults. We do a variety of activities that challenge their minds and bodies, all while keeping it fun! And finally Kindergarten has been learning all the rules of physical education class and having fun through learning a bunch of new games. All year we will work on improving their gross and fine motor skills as well as social issues; ie. sharing, cooperating, and good sportsmanship. Please be sure to have your children wear appropriate footwear for physical education. That would consist of tied or velcro athletic sneakers that provide support. Thank you! Health classes have begun! I will be teaching both the 5th and the 6th grades. The 5th grade will have Health 1 day a week. (it will replace one of the Physical Education days) 5B will have health on Mondays, 5F on Tuesdays and 5E on Wednesdays. The 6th grade will have Health 1 day a week as well. 6-1 will have health on Rota day 3, 6-2 will have health on Rota day 1 and 6-3 will have health on Rota day 2. The classes will meet every other rota day. All health classes will continue through the 3rd marking period. This year will be exciting and fun and I look forward to getting to know the children better and challenging them to always try their best, take responsibility and display good sportsmanship at all times. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me via e-mail or phone at any time and I will try to get back to you as soon as possible. |
