Mrs. Lederhaas - Art Teacher   

As an Art teacher my primary goal is to build confidence in each child's creative ability. Any task when broken down into simple steps is achievable, I hope my students will enjoy both the process of creativity as well as the beautiful products they create. I often find students are initially unsure when I show them what project we will be making. As the assignment goes on, they suprise even themselves by what they are capable of doing. It's such a joy to witness them grow as young artists, so proud of what they've made.

This year I am so excited to be teaching Art to all grades K-8. Our creative class projects have begun and we can't wait to show you what we can make. Projects will range in media including drawing, painting, collage, sculptures, crafts, ceramic art and textiles. Keep your eyes open for our hallway galleries of student art. It is a treat for me to showcase what our students have done at the end of each creative assignment. Our showcases change pretty often as we keep creating, so stop in whenever you can.

Our Art program also emphasizes the "Art disciplines", including the ability to critique, art history, and developing a sense of aesthetic. We often critique student's art or art history pieces in class, discussing our likes and dislikes. We discuss how Art makes us feel and what we see as beautiful. We focus on art history with an "Artist of the month" with an art history lesson including a short film in which we view the artist's work, and discuss the artist's life and how they lived.
